Oh Mia!

I’m starting to think that Mia is trying to get through all of the childhood viruses before she turns a year old! Two weeks ago she had Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, and then this week she has had Roseola. She can’t seem to catch a break lately.

I feel bad that we’ve had to stay indoors so much, especially as all Calvin wants to do is run! But, I’m being the responsible parent and trying not to take a contagious kid out and spread the viruses. At least we’ve had the advantage of having the AC on in 108F heat!

I started a fitness program almost 4 weeks ago and I’ve had some weight loss and I’ve slimmed down, but with going away with Curtis and trying to use what we have in the house to avoid taking the kids to the grocery store, I’ve been off track. It’s ok though, I haven’t gained what I’ve lost and hopefully today I can grocery shop and start meal planning again. I’m not getting down on myself for hitting a roadblock, if I let myself feel badly for a small bump, I’ll never recover.

A Busy Break

I haven’t been in much of a writing mood recently. Things have been pretty busy in our household with work, friends and family. It’s Fathers Day and although I am thinking about my dad a lot, missing him a ton and wishing he were still here with us, I am also trying not to dwell on it too much. It’s my husbands third Fathers Day and we are going to visit him at the station this evening for some dinner and bubble blowing!

It’s getting swelteringly hot here and I really wish to be back in the lovely 70F weather of San Diego that we had the chance to experience last weekend for a wedding we attended. It was the first time that Curtis and I had been away together, alone, since we got married in 2008. We stayed in a beautiful hotel near Mission Beach, ate breakfast by the bay, watched the cray fish glide through the water and rode beach cruisers up and down the boardwalk. It was blissful to say the least!

Review: Influenster Blossom VoxBox

I recently received my Blossom VoxBox from Influenster and was very excited to see what was inside.

It included:

  • Beanitos: Original w/ Sea Salt
  • Beanitos: Chipotle BBQ
  • Australian Gold SPF 30 Sunscreen
  • Clairol Hair Food Shampoo
  • Bear Naked Granola: Coconut Almond Curry
  • Bear Naked Granola: Sea Salt Caramel Apple
  • Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs (Medium)
  • NYC CityProof 24HR (605 Brooklyn Mocha)
  • Nasoya Pasta Zero: Shirataki Spaghetti

My son immediately wanted me to open the chips when He saw them in the box and he loved the Beanitos Original Black Bean Chips with Sea Salt!

I tried the Beanitos Chipotle BBQ Black Bean Chips, they had a great smoky taste, but we’re far too spicy for me! If you like a big kick of heat, they deliver that.

The next thing we tried were the two flavors of Bear Naked Granola. The sea salt caramel apple flavor was delicious alone and with yogurt. The coconut almond curry flavor… Not so much! I guess it reminded me too much of savory curry dishes (which I love) but I like my granola with some sweetness, which this lacked.

With the Clovis heat rising quickly, we’ve had a need for sunscreen as far back as February. My husband is terrible for remembering to apply sunscreen and doesn’t like the smell of it, but the Australian Gold SPF 30┬áblends into the skin very easily and smells amazing! I actually got my husband to wear this at a recent visit to the pool and it stayed on in the water and protected in 100F weather.

The day after we visited the pool, I decided to try the Clairol Hair Food: Root Cleansing Shampoo Infused with Strawberry Ginger Fragrance. First of all, it smells heavenly and the packaging is appealing to the eye, it would have been perfect had the pump on the bottle actually worked. I had to twist of the lid to try it (first world problems, right?) but once I had it lathered into my locks, it felt pretty good!

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, if I do it’s usually a bit of mascara and eyeliner. I did however try the NYC CityProof 24HR eyeshadow and it was complimentary to my brown eyes. The shade is 605 Brooklyn Mocha and has an iridescent bronze tone. I love the ease of use with this product. It’s a soft pencil eyeshadow that went on smoothly and I didn’t need a primer or a brush to make it work.

The two things left on my list, which I am yet to try, I will add to this post later. Although the Nasoya Pasta Zero: Shirataki Spaghetti is a healthy alternative to the traditional pasta, it does not currently fit into my meal plan. As for the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, I’m a little nervous to try it! It is a medium tone and I am fairly pale. I’m attending a wedding next week so perhaps I will try it before then.
